Outreach Program

La Clínica is dedicated to making sure we serve the people of our community who need us. We know that sometimes that means we need to go to where people live and work, to learn about what their needs are and to inform them about the services we provide. Currently, we have 2 health promoters who work primarily in outreach, Maria Antonia Sanchez and Gerardo Lugo.

Our Outreach staff:

Maria Antonia Sanchez (Toña) Toña has worked as a health promoter for La Clínica since 1989. She has done a variety of jobs, including working with the community to encourage well-child visits and vaccinations, working with women and men on domestic violence issues, promoting cancer screening for women and helping families learn strategies for weight management. What she likes about her job is that we offer services to people who need them most. She thinks it is important for La Clínica to have health promoter programs, because health promoters are part of the community, and they know and understand the culture, the needs and how to reach people. Toña has gained a national reputation as a health promoter, and has inspired many similar programs across the nation. We are proud that she calls us home!

Gerardo Lugo -- Gerardo has worked for La Clínica since 2002, conducting dental outreach, education on pesticides, lead exposure and household chemicals, and working to make sure we are accessible to people who need our services the most. He likes his job, because it involves helping people and serving the community. He thinks it is important for La Clínica to have health promoter programs because at times it is the best way to improve communication between the clinic and the people we are trying to serve.
