Employee Wellness Program

All the staff at La Clinica see themselves as health resources for the community. To support employees in their health efforts, La Clínica started an employee wellness program in 2005, which has been very popular. It has several components:

  1. An on-site wellness coordinator. Heather Clute is our wellness coordinator. She has a background in health education and a special interest in stress management. She is available to work one-on-one with any employee on their health goals and challenges.

  2. A Walk Challenge. Exercise is one of the most important things we can do for our health. In this program, we challenge employees to complete a virtual walk across, through or around the state of Oregon! You walk, bike, swim or do other exercise on your own time and keep track of your miles on a log sheet. There are three different routes to take to challenge yourself. Each route has several Progress Points along the way, and when you reach one of those, you can select a reward from our collection of fitness-oriented prizes. If you reach the end of your route within a year, you will be entered in a raffle for a grand prize of your choice!

You can count your actual miles (or use a pedometer) if you walk, jog, run or hike. If you do any other type of exercise (swimming, biking, dancing), then every 15 minutes counts as one mile. The idea is to motivate everyone to exercise at their own pace. You can join a group for extra motivation, but you still keep track of your own miles individually. The group doesn’t get their prizes at a progress point until everyone in the group makes it there, so it’s a way to encourage and support each other along the way.

  3. Lunchtime talks about various health topics including exercise, nutrition and stress management.

  4. Informational emails to encourage good health habits and let employees know about fun events happening in the area

When we take care of our own health, we are better advocates for the health of the community!
